Munster Junior Cup Greenwood A 1 Douglas Hall 1 (lost 4-3 on pens)

Douglas Hall keeper James O' Brien save the final Greenwood spotter to give his side a 4-3 shoot-out win and send thme into the second round of the Munster Junior Cup. It was hard lines on Greenwood keeper Anthony Hayes. He made some great saves in the second half and also stopped one in the shootout.

The game itself, switched from Moneygourney to Clashduv Road, had ended at 1-1. The Hall took the lead early in the second half and were pegged back late on. Greenwood could have won it in injury time but for a fine save by O'Brien.

Greenwood made the better start and the Hall defence was tested by Mark Kelleher but there was no real danger to O'Brien's goal in this period. Douglas did come close with their first attack, that came in the 25th minute and ended with a Dave Ludzic shot going over the bar. Steve Carroll went close before the end of the first half which ended scoreless.

There was a slow enough start to the second period. Ludzic and opposite number Colin Foley threatened but each was well tackled at the crucial moment. The opening goal wasn't long coming and came from a 54th minute corner, headed home by Donal O' Connell. Hayes was now busy and made saves from Carroll and from Martin Davies.

The Hall failed to push home their advantage and Greenwood seemed to get a second wind for the final quarter and equalised in the 78th minute when subs Michael Cronin and Mark Sweeney combined and Niall Calnan finished past O'Brien. Calnan came close again a few minutes later but , when clean through, drove straight at O'Brien. Hall sub , Brendan Crowe, had a header saved by Hayes. Crowe then fired for goal in the second last minute but Hayes did well to parry and Gavin Draper was unable to profit from the rebound.

An escape at the other end then saw O'Brien make an injury time save from Kelleher to take the game to extra time where nothing much happened, though the Hall had to survive a scramble after Coleman McCarthy headed a Greenwood free down in the box.
Douglas went ahead in the first penalty exchange but Greenwood got back to level before O'Brien dived to his right to save the fifth Greenwood penalty and send his side through on a 4-3 count

Greenwood A: Anthony Hayes , Kevin McCarthy, Ian Foley, Shane Rock, Declan Crowe(C), Keith Murphy, Niall Calnan, Ian Manning, Coleman McCarthy, Colin Foley and MArk Kelleher Subs: Michael Cronin and Mark Sweeney.

U12 National Cup Greenwood 6 Carrigaline 0

Greenwood stormed into the second round of the National Cup on Saturday with a 6-0 demolition of Carrigaline A. Dominating the game from start to finsh, Greenwood ripped their opponents to shreds with their flowing passing movements.

It took the hosts only seven minutes to open the scoring. Leonard Seston threaded a beautiful through-ball to captain Aaron Kelleher, who lobbed the advancing keeper William McCarthy.

At the centre of most of Greenwood's forays forward was the jewel in the crown, midfielder Vasile Dimitru, who had an exceptional game. Dimitru grabbed the second goal in the 27th minute with a stunning half-volley which gave the keeper no chance. Stephen Cotter came close to grabbing a screamer near the end of the half, his 30 yard effort skimmng the top of the cross-bar.

The second half began in the same vein as the first, with Greenwood ploughing forward at every oppurtunity. Carrigaline's Brian Fitzpatrick squandered a good chance when his side caught Greenwood on the break but the chance went abegging. They were made to pay ten minutes into the half.

Sexton collected the ball on the edge of the box and sent it whizzing into the bottom corner, making it 3-0 and efectively ending the game as a contest. Five minutes late the score-line was to become even more emphatic. It was a very sloppy goal on Carrigaline's part, Justin Morgan shooting home after the defence failed to clear Sexton's corner.

It was now all Greenwood and the fifth goal came with eight minutes left to play. After some brilliant work down the right by Aaron Kelleher, he crossed the ball for Leon Russell who finished with ease. With Carrigaline now dead and buried, they conceded a sixth goal four minutes from the end. Following some superb approach play, Dimitru passed to Jordan Itiat who made no mistake from close range.

It was a convincing and sweet victory for an impressive Greenwood who are clearly a force with which to be reckoned.

Greenwood : Brian Kerins, Eric Spillane, Ryan Tobin, Justin Morgan, Ross Ryan, Vasile Dimitru, Leonard Sexton, Stephen Cotter, Aaron Kelleher, Aaron Barry, Aaron Gorman. Subs: Jordan Itiat(37) , Leon Russell(42) , Shane Collins (42)
